Driver Training Services is proud to support the sixth annual Global Youth Traffic Safety Month (GYTSM) campaign in May 2012.
Global Youth Traffic Safety Month is dedicated to empowering and engaging youth in peer-to-peer traffic safety education efforts, advocating for increased enforcement, and supporting laws that protect our youth as they travel on our nation’s highways. May is a significant month to focus on teen safe driving – it’s a time when prom, graduation, and summer vacation are all gearing up and statistically begins the most dangerous time on the road for young drivers. Car crashes remain the number one cause of death among teenagers. Last year, nearly 30,000 Pennsylvania teens were involved in car crashes, and summer is a deadly time for young adults behind the wheel.
We at Driver Training Services constantly strive to transform teens into safe, defensive drivers, and we’re proud of our efforts. The vast majority of our students make it through their teenage years without becoming a sad traffic statistic. But we’re not satisfied, we’re not resting on the work we’ve done in the past. We’re constantly learning and implementing new ways to reach students and new ways to teach survival on roads that become more dangerous each year. And our training efforts don’t stop once you have a license – we actively refresh and retrain licensed drivers all the time.
As an official training center of the National Safety Council®, Driver Training Services is the regional provider of Alive At 25® – a program which has influenced the lives of more than 400,000 young adults since 1995. This 4-hour class is a powerful experience for anyone ages 16-24 who might need a refresher on safe, defensive driving skills. Our next session is Sunday, June 10. Learn more here.
Today, in conjunction with Youth Traffic Safety Month, we’re issuing a challenge: Reach out and save a life. Each and every one of you knows someone whose driving behaviors concern you, whose habits are leading them down a deadly path. None of us want to lose a friend, family member or coworker in a crash that could easily have been prevented with just a little extra knowledge or training. We challenge you to take a few moments this month and talk with them about safe, defensive driving. Tell them how concerned, how scared you are for their safety. Reach out. Talk with them about the things you learned from us and how they might benefit. It’s our mission to save lives through training excellence, but we can only change the lives of the people who walk through our doors.
Take the challenge, share your training and experience and get them to call us – just get them to us, and we’ll take care of the rest. Those few minutes you spend in conversation just might help save someone’s life, which will make them some of the best-spent moments of your life.
