The ability to drive is central to our way of life, our sense of personal freedom. Having a driver’s license lets us travel when we want, run errands when we need to, visit friends and family with ease.
It’s a fact of life – as we age, our bodies and minds may not work as well as they used to. We can’t see things as well as we used to. Our bodies aren’t as strong or as flexible as they once were. Sometimes, we may even get a little confused or forget things.
It’s natural, and all part of the aging process, but these little changes can dramatically impact our ability to drive safely. Behind teenagers just learning to drive, seniors over the age of 65 are the second most likely to die in a car crash.
Is it inevitable? Well, it doesn’t necessarily have to be. Driver Training Services wants to help seniors drive safely for as long as possible. That’s why we’ve included here on our website the AMA’s “Am I A Safe Driver” checklist. All of the statements pertain directly to your ability to drive safely. If you agree with any of the statements, your abilities may be impaired.
We can help! Call us to schedule an appointment for a free, confidential safe driving evaluation. If we see any impairments, we can recommend a variety of ways to help you regain your safe driving abilities – and keep them for years to come.
